When is the Best Time
to Visit Australia?
Say, you now have an Australian visa (or if you don’t, don’t be a stranger and let us take care of it, as we have years of relevant experience). You want to go travel there, but there is one question you’d like answered beforehand: when to go?
While, of course, that largely depends on your goals, budget, and other factors, we can definitely tell you a thing or two about general facts of the matter. Let’s begin!
Understanding Australia
Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere – which means all you know about seasons is going to be turned on its head! The further north you go on that continent, the colder it gets (though don’t worry, it’s never THAT cold).
Additionally, summer, winter, and the rest of the seasons there are different from what you’re accustomed to. In fact:
- Summer lasts from December to February;
- Autumn begins in March and ends in May;
- Winter takes up June to August;
- Spring comes in September and goes in November.
But in the north, due to certain climate shenanigans, you have but two seasons: one dry and the other wet. The latter starts in October and lasts till April and the former goes vice versa. The wet season is traditionally less expensive, but be sure to take an umbrella, because it’s not called what it’s called for naught!
What to do in winter
Winter temperatures range from roughly 10°C to 30°C. It’s a low season, and travel and stay costs less. During this time, it’s a great idea to go enjoy the Great Barrier Reef – while it’s not too hot up there.
What to do in spring and autumn
The temps are going up to around 15°C to 35°C, so those of you who like it warmer might want to look at travelling during these seasons. The fact of the matter is should you want to explore the whole continent–this might be the absolute best time to do so.
What to do in summer
Summer in Australia is the hottest season in more ways than one. Then the tourists are running buck-wild and the flights cost more.
However, this is compensated by the higher temps (20°C to 40°C) that allow for great beach experiences even in the south.
To conclude, every season has its own offerings–but it falls to you to pick the ones you like the most!
