Spending a weekend in Moscow is always a nice idea. Arguably, fall is better suited than summer, as this admittedly large city cools down a bit and you can stay outside for longer comfortably.
Central Russia
Scattered across different regions of Central Russia are famous estates, magnificent at any time of the year, but especially in autumn. It is no coincidence that many of them are associated with the names of great poets, writers and artists who lived there and drew inspiration from the source of natural beauty. As a rule, trips from large cities to estates are short.
Many of them are museums as well as supreme displays of landscape and park art. The names of some of them are well known: Arkhangelskoye, Abramtsevo, Muranovo, Shakhmatovo. And these are only in the Moscow region! Walking through the parks, admiring the unique autumn colors, visiting museums, and trying old Russian cuisine is an excellent program for any autumn weekend.
Sochi
Those of us who still want to get the most out of the beach season are also in luck thanks to the sea resorts of Sochi. There, the change of summer into autumn can be seen only by the fact that the beaches have become more spacious, and there are almost no children in the water parks. The school year has begun, the school students are gone home, and most of their parents aren’t on their holidays anymore, too.
This means that the path to the seas is open to lovers of the velvet season. Almost the entire summer infrastructure works at the resorts, but the demand for it is many times lower, there are no queues and crowds (and prices drop considerably as well). You can take a soothing walk along the embankment, choose fruits in the market, order and go on an excursion on the same day. For example, in Abrau-Dyurso you can see the local factory and taste its products. It is comfortable on the southern seas until mid-October, so you should not worry if you didn’t manage to hit the local beaches in the summer.
