The grand opening
The opening ceremony is going to be held on May 17, 2025, and is sure to become a spectacular affair, drawing dignitaries, historians, and tourists alike. Each year, it is a tradition to dedicate the ceremony to some cultural or historic event, and 2025 is no different, although what it will be this time is for now kept under wraps to make a huge surprise.
Last year’s, for example, was in honour of Peter the First – incidentally, also the first Russian emperor, who, despite his numerous wars with European powers, saw Russia as belonging firmly within Europe and strove to make his country more European-like than, arguably, any other ruler.
What to expect
The opening of the fountains in Peterhof is planned for May 17, 2025, with the festivities starting at 1:00 PM. The final program will be published by the organizers by the end of April, but there are several traditional recurring events. Among them are the following:
- a theatrical performance;
- the main event – the ceremonial launch of the Peterhof fountains;
- and a cannon salute at the end of the event.
The location for the spectacular show is near the Grand Cascade against the backdrop of the palace. Visitors should arrive early to secure a spot close to the stage. The proceedings can also be observed on large screens, as the broadcast from web cameras is available online, as the cameras are directed right at the epicenter of the events.
In conclusion
Among the places to visit in Russia this spring/summer season, Peterhof is definitely one of the best ones. It provides tourists with an excellent attraction that is its historical architecture as well as the annual tradition that is the ceremony.
And all of that (and more!) can be easily seen and visited with a Russian visa. If you are not sure where to start with that task, we have a useful material about applying to it.
